Welcome to the Earth Ocean & Space Home Page. We are situated at the Australian Technology Park Sydney Limited. Earth Ocean and Space Pty Ltd (ACN 058 410 996) is an environmental and engineering consultancy started in 1993 which aims to provide quality advice and information for the management of the marine environment. Earth Ocean and Space has created innovative technical services based on partnership between Australian and Japanese expertise.

Publishing

Earth Ocean & Space has published a monograph on one of its core technologies, satellite remote sensing of the oceans. The book, entitled Remote Sensing of the Pacific Ocean by Satellites, is edited by US expert Robert Brown. This book represents a milestone for EO&S Publishing which is now focusing on CD ROM and other information intensive products.

Sample Contracts

Reduction of Atmospheric CO2
This project demonstrated the feasibility of enhancing photosynthesis in the upper ocean and thus increasing the oceanic uptake of carbon dioxide.

Ocean Colour Satellite Monitoring
NASDA in Japan required ground truth measurements around Australia and used the services of  EO&S to arrange for the collection of ocean chlorophyll samples.

Manly Hydraulics Laboratory
EO&S assisted in the development of statistics for the directional wave database of the NSW coast. Developed an IT Strategy Plan for the Coastal Environemntal Data Management System.

Conference Management and Secretariat Services
EO&S data management provided the secretariat support, including publication of the abstracts for this conference which was held at the CSIRO Marine Laboratories.

The Ballast Water Introduced Pests Project of the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service and Australian Government Survey Organisation contracted EO&S to create a hard copy report and CD-ROM of  meta-data and readily available Temperature and Salinity data for key Australian ports.

Climate Observing System Directory
A technical options document was prepared for the GCOS/GOOS secretariat at the Bureau of Meteorology for development of this meta-data directory.

IAPSO
EO&S has for the last 8 years compiled the bibliographies for the International Association of Physical Sciences of the Oceans conferences.

Underwater Gas Leak Detector
BHP Petroleum retained EO&S to design an underwater acoustic detector of gas flow from a relief valve riser.

Ocean Nourishment ®

Mankind is faced with three interconnected problems, those of  rising population, the provision of adequate food and the increasing level of waste carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
The company holds patents for Greenhouse Gas Mitigation technology that nourishes the ocean to produce more fish nitrogen for the ocean is obtained from the atmoshpere using natural gas as fuel stock. It has licenced the Ocean Nourishment Corporation to commercialise this technology. These issues are addressed in a new book called Nurture the oceans: Save the Earth.

The Inventors of Ocean Nourishment

GHG Mitigation

Earth Ocean and Space has developed a number of technologies to generate carbon credits. The most promising technology using the ocean is called Ocean Nourishment TM. On a smaller scale neutralising carbonic acid with calcium carbonate has promising economics. Carbon Capture and Ocean Storage, by changing the alkalinity of the ocean, can permanently store more carbon in the ocean. Some laboratory results supporting this technology can be viewed at the report CCOS using Neutralisation. EO&S has submitted a request for approval of this new mothod of sequestering carbon to the CDM Executive Board of the UNFCCC. If approved, the carbon dioxide absorbed by the EO&S process can be designated as Certified Emission Reduction (CER) units and traded on international exchanges.

To learn more about this green technology click here to see the document Carbon Capture and Ocean Storage CCOS or contact EO&S or Worley.

Organisation

Located at the Australian Technology Park (in association with the University of NSW, the University of Technology, Sydney, and the University of Sydney), we are able to build teams to tackle difficult and broad spectrum problems. Our key personnel has a long history of association with the University of Sydney, in particular, and we have assembled teams of national experts at short notice to address clients' needs. Students working on projects, under supervision of EO&S staff, have provided a very cost effective way of investing novel engineering problems. These projects have led to patented ideas in some cases.
